about

Alan is a UK landscape and outdoor photographer, based in North Yorkshire, whose images capture the mood and beauty of the landscape. His interest in photography started from a young age, inspired by the dramatic views he often encountered while climbing mountains in the Lake District, and he has since dedicated many years to refining his photographic and printing techniques.

Alan strongly believes in the importance of nature conservation and the inspiration for his images often comes from a desire to represent the diversity of our remaining wild environments, with areas such as the Lake District, the North East coast and the Scottish Highlands being some of his favourite locations.

His work has been published in photographic magazines and exhibited at the Joe Cornish Galleries, where he was a contributing photographer for many years, and he enjoys working with others who share his passion. As an experienced photographer, Alan is always happy to talk about his work and provide advice and tuition to those starting on their own photographic journey and developing their skills.

If you would like to know more about Alan's photography, or would like advice on the landscape photography techniques, equipment or post-production processes he uses, please get in touch.

Nature First

As a Nature First member, Alan promotes responsible photography, to help conserve and protect nature's beautiful locations. It's easy for photographers to inadvertently cause damage to the environment, by advertising the locations of images online, making them increasingly more popular, or through their own actions when at a location. The Nature First Principles were developed to help educate and guide both professional and recreational photographers in sustainable, minimal-impact practices:

  1. Prioritise the well-being of nature over photography.
  2. Educate yourself about the places you photograph.
  3. Reflect on the possible impact of your actions.
  4. Use discretion if sharing locations.
  5. Know and follow rules and regulations.
  6. Always follow Leave No Trace principles and strive to leave places better than you found them.
  7. Actively promote and educate others about these principles.

I encourage all photographers, who care about the locations they photograph, to join Nature First and help to promote a more responsible approach to photography. Membership is free and through following the Nature First Principles and encouraging others to do the same, we can continue to enjoy these places and won't just have images to remember them by.
